GET THERE ON TRAX
If what you’re looking for is further out from central Downtown Salt Lake, hop on TRAX, Utah’s light rail public transportation. It’s a quick ride to wherever you’re going. The Carlton staff can help plan your journey. The TRAX station is located just one block from The Carlton’s front door. During ski season, TRAX also connects with a UTA Ski Bus skiers to Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons, where the world famous Brighton, Solitude, Alta and Snowbird ski resorts are located. In 2008 a brand new hub will open in Salt Lake, connecting TRAX with a commuter rail line serving the entire Wasatch Front from Ogden to Provo.

Located in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City, this historic landmark is home of Ballet West, Utah Opera, and Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company. The theatre also hosts class Broadway productions and community arts education programs.

The Clark Planetarium presents daily star shows, 3-D music concerts, and 3-D Imax movies. It has a space museum with lots of exhibits and a small gift shop.

The LDS Conference Center features a 21,000-seat auditorium and a 850-seat theater. There are beautiful art exhibits throughout the building. The roof garden has four acres modled after authentic native grassland, with hundreds of native flowers that bloom throughout the summer months. There are daily organ recitals in the Conference Center auditorium.

This Roman Catholic cathedral stands majestically near the avenues in Salt Lake City. The building was renovated in 1990. The Romanesque facade, with gargoyles and stained glass, invites visitors to enter its Gothic Revival chambers within. The Eccles organ welcomes all with its reeds and diapasons booming their robust tones. Visitors can call ahead to schedule an hour-long guided tour.

The Tabernacle is home of the world-famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Orchestra at Temple Square. It has been recently renovated and is now open for tours as well as for most of the weekly rehearsals (usually Thursday evenings from 8:00-9:30pm) and Sunday broadcasts (must be seated by 9:15am) of the world-famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

This beautifully restored historic building, the former Hotel Utah, houses the popular FamilySearch Center, for beginners interested in exploring their family history. The 500-seat Legacy Theater shows an hour-long, free film about the life of the Mormon Prophet Joseph Smith. There are three excellent public restaurants: The Roof and The Garden, located on the tenth floor, and the newly opened Nauvoo Cafe, in the southwest corner of the Main Floor. Tracy Aviary is located on eight acres of land in the heart of Salt Lake City. Open to the public since 1938, Tracy Aviary maintains a collection of approximately 400 birds representing about 135 species. Many of these birds are considered rare or endangered.
